MATI (Modulated Ayurvedic Teaching Initiatives)

MATI (Modulated Ayurvedic Teaching Initiatives) is a research initiative to develop teaching modules and programs in different aspects of Ayurveda.

MATI in Sanskrit stands for trained intelligence, cognitive skill that is developed by study of science. Buddhi is raw intelligence and Mati is trained intelligence. MATI is an initiative at AVTAR to develop parallel learning programs for Ayurveda students, graduates and practitioners with the aim of filling gaps in the current education system of Ayurveda.

The following learning programs have been visualized for implementation at AVTAR under MATI.

1. Ashtanga Hrdaya Saptaha – The Ashtanga Hrdaya Saptaha is an attempt to introduce the basic methodology of text based study as opposed to syllabus based study. This is essentially a one week orientation program for students and practitioners of Ayurveda to familiarize with the logistics involved in the text based approach to the study of Ayurveda. 2. CME Programs – The CME Programs are organized by AVTAR from time to time to update the practitioners of Ayurveda regarding diagnostic and therapeutic decision making as well as relevant developments in the clinical field. For more details CLICK HERE.

3. Education Technology for Ayurveda – Apart from the above programs, AVTAR is also developing and expanding a comprehensive educational technology for effective study of Ayurveda. The goal is to create Ayurvedic physicians who are confident and capable of practicing Ayurveda after completion of the BAMS Course. The education technology for Ayurveda restructures the entire syllabus with emphasis on study of texts, rearrangement of the topics that helps to better appreciate the thought process of Ayurveda. It also redefines the most essential clinical and practical training required for students of Ayurveda to become confident and successful practitioners.

LINGA (Laboratory Investigations and Nosological Guidelines in Ayurveda)

LINGA (Laboratory Investigations and Nosological Guidelines in Ayurveda) is a clinical research laboratory initiative with the aim to develop relevant nosological guidelines in Ayurveda to scientifically back up clinical practice in Ayurveda.

The LINGA program is working towards the creation of guidelines for interpretation of modern laboratory investigations from the conceptual framework of Ayurveda.

LINGA is also developing and validating instruments and tools for diagnosis and evaluation of treatment outcomes in Ayurveda. Algorithms for treatment decision making based on key diagnostic considerations is also an important activity under the LINGA program.

LINGA is attempting to create a standardized nomenclature for diseases based on the Ayurvedic conceptual framework by classifying disease entities under three broad headings – Yathokta (disease entities described in classical texts), Ayathokta (disease entities partially described in classical texts), Anukta (new clinical presentations not documented in the classical literature of Ayurveda). Based on this three fold classification, an attempt is being made to create and updated nosology for Ayurveda and the possibility of linking this with modern scientific nomenclature of diseases is also being explored.

IISA (Integrative Initiative in Science and Ayurveda)

IISA (Integrative Initiative in Science and Ayurveda) is a research initiative to find meeting points to integrate Science and Ayurveda within a comprehensive theoretical and application oriented framework.

Integrative Initiative in Science and Ayurveda, is a research program to bridge the modern disciplines of biology and allied sciences with Ayurveda. The segregation of these communities till recent times seldom does any good and has in present context, blinded science to exciting prize of an uncharted land for research in Ayurveda which proclaimed over a thousand years ago that its claim to authority was based not merely on ancient texts but on demonstrable results.

IISA, aims to integrate these disciplines and enter into translational research which either benefits Ayurveda or Science and at times both. Integration of technology with Ayurveda is also important to deliver the benefits of later better and quickly. The institution also invite participation of Modern Research Institutions for collaborations in Integrative Initiative in Science and Ayurveda.
